Chicago reroofing permits that name an active roofing license
As of Oct 21, 2026, 1,089 of the 1,310 reroofing permits Chicago issued in the last 12 months (83.1%) name an active IDFPR roofing license in this dataset, across 344 licenses. The rest give no license number, a malformed one, or one not on the active list; an unmatched number does not mean the roofer is unlicensed.

How we counted
Every reroofing permit in City of Chicago Building Permits (data.cityofchicago.org) issued in the 12 months to this build is read once. The number after “IL ROOFING CONTRACTOR LICENSE:” in its work description is matched exactly to the license numbers of the active IDFPR roofing licenses this site reads; short or malformed numbers are not padded. A match shows the license was written on the permit, not that the roof was finished or that the license was active on the issue date.
How to reproduce it
Run this SoQL query against https://data.cityofchicago.org/resource/ydr8-5enu.json (the $query parameter), take the number after “IL ROOFING CONTRACTOR LICENSE:” in each work description, and look it up in the IDFPR dataset (https://data.illinois.gov/resource/pzzh-kp68.json?license_number=...).
