Chicago reroofing permit issuances, year to date
As of Oct 21, 2026, recorded reroofing permit issuances in Chicago rose from 883 to 1,134 in the comparable January 1–October 21 windows of 2025 and 2026, an increase of 251, or 28.4%. These are permit issuances, not finished roofs or all reroofing work: some residential work is exempt, permits later voided or revoked drop out of the source, and the counts say nothing about storms, spending or contractor capacity.

How we counted
Every reroofing permit in City of Chicago Building Permits (data.cityofchicago.org) with an issue date in each window is counted once, from the same source on this build's date.
How to reproduce it
Run these two SoQL queries against https://data.cityofchicago.org/resource/ydr8-5enu.json (the $query parameter); the source changes daily, so a later run counts that day's permits.
